2014 (SBS) Pinocchio '피노키오'

The love story in "Pinocchio" is all right. Lee Jong-suk and Park Sin-hye have good chemistry together. I kind of have to remind myself of this sometimes, because the overall story is so tangentially related to the romance that it's easy to forget. To the credit of the production team, the whole scene in the street with all the snow, and the actual argument of what the relationship of the main two characters is? Pretty spectacular looking.
Just kind of irrelevant to the discussion of journalism ethics is all, which is where "Pinocchio" gets topical. I don't know what the weather is like wherever you are, but in Korea it's taken a rapid turn for the chilly and it's up to the newscasters to get at the real story here- how unpleasant it is to slip on ice. Oh sure, it's all fun and games watching someone else slip. Then it's just slapstick. But it's really a pretty unpleasant experience, especially when most people try very hard not to slip and end up failing anyway.
The scripting is pretty meta to boot. Note how we're introduced to the newsworthy story by clips, obviously produced by someone at SBS, demonstrating the exact same situation with people in real life. Regardless of how well In-ha and Beom-joo cooperate in regards to the footage we see being taken, the fact remains that real life news organizations in real life behave the exact same way. Provided you've ever watched a newscast, you've probably seen evidence of this firsthand.
This all makes for a somewhat unsettling reminder that reporters are, by definition, passive participants in everyday life. They report, we decide. But passive isn't the same thing as neutral. Note the scene where Jae-myeong gets quite livid upon discovering that he's been deceived. Even though technically no harm was done, the man does not like being lied to, for good reason.
In greater context this makes for all sorts of interesting implications. While In-ha is, at times, superficially impeded by her inability to lie, in the long run truthfulness usually lands her in a better place. By contrast, none of Dal-po's lies to date have ended particularly well at all. While they start out with a hint of progress, ultimately we find that either the lies were irrelevant or they have somehow damaged his interpersonal relationships. There's a surprising degree of depth in the ethical arguments "Pinocchio" makes, which does a fair amount to keep the proceedings interesting even without the momentum-shifting cliffhanger.

My Note: Eve and Jenzzy........you both sure are having loads of fun with the kiss scene......the sharp, clear and magnified screen caps of all possible angles and moments.....
Never realized there were so many..... Good job and thanks......
Narjess.......why don't I get those sort of dreams???........how was the hug if I may ask ( I read a fan account that Shinhye always smells very nice) or if you can recall. it's good to know that I am not the only one trying to catch on the many unread posts.......
it sure is fun watching Pinocchio. It's one of the few dramas that I am able to rewatched because of so many interest elements....
Regarding the ratings issue that verfir mentioned.........it could be.....
Less people watching live in Korea......time slot maybe the factor. The overall audience watching is lower for all the dramas. Maybe, that's the reason for the second press conference to get them interested enough for them to make time to watch.
Since internet percentage is getting higher I feel that people are definitely liking it.
There is definitely no reason not to because this is one drama which caters to all age groups, gender and taste.
Let's wait and see. But......I have high hopes of it becoming the leader before mr Baek ends.
Just found out one of things LJS said during conference he really praised PSH to the highest level lol
“I saw a brand new side of Park Shin Hye. Until now, I haven’t ever thought that [Park Shin Hye] was pretty. But as we film together, she really looks lovely and pretty.”
Lee Jong-suk also said, “I haven’t thought that Park Shin-hye is pretty. But as time goes by, she looks much prettier. Her beauty is one of the reason that this drama is popular.”

“Pinocchio” Episode 9 Preview + Thoughts About Episode 8
Source:couch-kimchi
I’ve read statements that Dal Po is light while Jae Myung is darkness. I completely disagree with this. Both brothers are very similar. They are both kind-hearted men whose dark sides are triggered by their tragic past. The difference is that Dal Po was able to grow up with love and hope while Jae Myung had to fend for himself after losing his family. At least, Dal Po always knew he had a brother out there while he thought they were all gone. And despite that, he’s still so sweet and kind to strangers. Sure, he’s a murderer but I still find him very sympathetic and compelling. If anything, he’s my favorite character in this drama.
And I like how they often mirror each other. Just like they both fell to their knees and cried upon learning of their father’s fate, they both lash out at reporters. Jae Myung’s reaction to Dal Po wasn’t much different from how his brother acted at the station several years earlier.
Anyone who’s familiar with my recaps knows I’m not a fan of bad boys, woobies or manpain. There’s nothing I hate more than characters who lash out at innocent people due to their painful pasts. And perhaps that’s the difference here. I’m not sympathetic to Jae Myung’s victims nor as critical of his actions as I would otherwise be because his victims were not innocent. Why is this guy an evil murderer while Liam Neeson in Taken who must have killed like 100 people in like 2 hours a hero? I suppose the key point is the difference between saving someone from an active crime and taking revenge for a past one. And I think many of us are okay with revenge in fiction as long as the avenger doesn’t make them pay for their sins with their lives. Murder is a line that shouldn’t be crossed. Having said that, I would absolutely hate for a cheap twist that reveals he isn’t a murderer. Just no.
If he were my brother, I would weep for the pain he must have felt and the darkness inside him that drove him to commit horrible crimes but I would also hug him and try to give him the love he’s lived without for over a decade.
The question now is how far will he take his revenge? His brother is still in his heart as depicted in the scene with the boy he saved. But so is In Ha’s mother and we now have to see if and what he’ll do to hurt her daughter. This guy believes in mirror punishment. He retaliates by paying his enemies in kind. But In Ha doesn’t have a good relationship with her mother so there isn’t much to destroy. However, Jae Myung’s family destruction led to suicide. What will he do? Will it eventually lead to a scene where Ha Myung will have to hurt his brother to save In Ha? Writers, please don’t give us a tragic ending for this man. I believe that he needs to pay for his crimes but I also want him to find peace.
Previews:
The romance has taken a back seat ever since they’ve become reporters. While I wouldn’t mind more OTP time, I’m okay with it because it means we aren’t forced to sit through several episodes of denial, fights and pointless love triangles because their romance needs to be stretched over sixteen episodes. I don’t know what else they have in store because they still have that family obstacle but I hope they are in a solid place when Ha Myung gets knee deep in his brother’s life. I’m most looking forward to the scene where he finally reveals his past to her.
I think the liver transplant case came a little too early because we didn’t really get much conflict from Dal Po’s hatred for the profession as he was put into the reporters’ positions really quickly and has become very sympathetic towards them. How does this affect his feelings for In Ha’s mother? I hope they haven’t dropped that.
I can’t end this without mentioning the kiss
It almost felt like it came out of nowhere because they’d barely shared much screen time in the episode and he hadn’t verbally confessed his feelings to her till then (though she got an inkling from the back hug and his echoing of her “cold” excuse). So it was like, “No, we can’t go back to being family” and then bam.
As romance is such a big part of dramas, they have to come up with different types of kisses and here we’ve got a palm kiss. I’m sure many of us have had our palms kissed but probably not like this. Normally, a woman covering her lips when a man inches closer means “no” but somehow, I found him kissing her palm very romantic. Perhaps because they were both aware of her real feelings? Regardless, he made sure she was accepting before kissing her for real and it was a sweet one.
Anyway, it was another good episode and I’m looking forward to the next one. I think it’s time for us to learn a bit more about her mother. I suspect she’s not really as cold as we think… or perhaps this is just me hoping.

‘Pinocchio' Lee Jong Suk Uncovers His Brother’s Crime
By Staff Writer | Dec 04, 2014

SBS Wednesday Thursday drama "Pinocchio" actors Lee Jong Suk's older brother Yoon Kyoon Sang saved a child's life, who was about to get into a car accident. On the most recent episode of the SBS Wednesday Thursday drama "Pinocchio" which aired on December 4, 2014, Choi Dal Po, played by actor Lee Jong Suk, noticed the crime his older brother Ki Jae Myung, played by actor Yoon Kyoon Sang, had committed. On this day's episode, Choi Dal Po approached Ki Jae Myung and asked him about the disappearance of a man named Moon Duk Soo. Choi Dal Po came to a conclusion that Ki Jae Myung had a lot to do with the disappearance, and felt conflicted. In related news, the SBS Wednesday Thursday drama "Pinocchio" tells a story of entry-level reporters working for a newspaper company. Actress Park Shin Hye plays the main character called Choi In Ha, who is a reporter who hiccups whenever she lies to other people. Actor Lee Jong Suk plays the other main character Choi Dal Po, also known as Ki Ha Myung, in the drama.
This guy received many praises, btw Yoon Kyun Sang, I mean I wonder, what other dark deeds he will commit in later episodes?

Hi Marc!
Good morning to you
This translation of LJS regarding Shinhye in the second press conference is under lot of discussion everywhere because it seems to be a conflicting statement from his previous ones. At the first press conference and other occasions where he said she was very pretty repeatedly.
Also, he did mention during Jambangee ad modelling with Shinhye that when he first saw her he could not breathe. One would only feel like that for someone who one finds exceptionally lovely to behold.
So all in all I do feel that something got lost in translation somewhere. A word here and there in the wrong place changes the whole context.
Isn't there something off? I felt there is because of above reasons.
Just my two cents....
