[STARCAST] I was like that back then - Past decade of "Queen of tears” Park Shin-hye
"Lovers meet again for sure."
A girl sorrowfully says with tearful eyes.
It does not ring any bell to you yet?
"Oppa! Song-ju oppa!"
That’s right. She is Park Shin-hye, who presented an excellent acting ability a decade ago on SBS-TV 'Stairway to Heaven' as a child actor of Choi Ji-woo.
How did the girl change now?
"I acquit the defendant Lee Yong-gu of his charge."
She became a queen of tears who guarantees a success. She grew up in no time and served as an excellent main character of the film Miracle in Cell No. 7;. She moved over 10 million viewers to tears with conveyed deep emotions in detail.
We had a look at the past decade of Actress Park Shin-hye based on her seven major works, 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Tree of Heaven', ‘You’re Beautiful', 'Dating Agnecy: Cyrano', Miracle in Cell No. 7', and 'Flower Boys Next Door'.
This is Park Shin-hye’s 'It was like that back then’.
☞ SBS-TV 'Stairway to Heaven' (2003)
The actress with full potential was different from the beginning. The 14-year-old girl took the child role of the top star Choi Ji-woo upon her debut. She is the young Han Jeong-seo on 'Stairway to Heaven'. She falls in love with Cha Song-ju (child actor Baek Sung-hyun) by destiny. Despite mistreatment by the step-mother Tae Mi-ra (Lee Hui-hyang), she keeps her warm heart.
She was praised for her excellent acting skills even though she was a child actress. She perfectly expressed the innocent love with Baek Sung-hyun. They ride a bike in rain with a bright smile or make a promise to be together in the future in front of a marry-go-around with a sorrowful face. Her crying scene is impressive. Viewers were stunned by her crying scene when she was mistreated by her step-mother Tae Mi-ra.
☞ SBS-TV 'Tree of Heaven' (2005)
Park Shin-hye took the main role for the first time. She played Ha-na, a Korean Japanese girl with a tragic fate. The counterpart was Lee Wan (Yun-seo). They already acted together on 'Stairway to Heaven'. She tells a sad love story with her half-brother Yun-seo.
Her excellent ability to deliver lines stood out. She spoke Japanese naturally like water flows. By contract, she drew attention by speaking awkward Korean. Moreover, she proved herself as a queen of tears once again. The highlight was the scene where she cried out loud to find out that her transplanted heart was Yun-seo’s on the last episode.
☞ SBS-TV 'You’re Beautiful' (2009)
This time she tried a beauty masquerading as a man. She acted the twin siblings Go Mi-nyeo and Go Mi-nam. Instead of the older brother Go Mi-nam who went to the US for the re-operation for his failed double eyelid surgery, she joins the idol group ‘A Angel’. She creates a triangular relationship with the leader of 'A Anger' Hwang Tae-kyung (Jang Keun-suk) and its member Kang Shin-woo (Jung Yong-hwa).
How was Park Shin-hye-style beauty masquerading as a man? She had a haircut and turned into a lovely boy. She freely switched between two roles. When she plays Go Mi-nyeo who hopes to become a nun, she is a modesty and quiet girl. By contrast, when she acts as Go Mi-nam, she becomes bubbly. She used manly gesures and a military way of speaking to create the funny character Go Mi-nam.
☞ Film 'Dating Agnecy: Cyrano' (2010)
In 2010, Park Shin-hye turned 20 years old. She chose 'Dating Agnecy: Cyrano' as her first work as a grown up. She played Min-young, the operation staff of the dating agency ‘Cyrano’. She was a bold, chic, and nimble character. The weakness is that she learned about romance from a book.
She removed the image of a child actress and became a mature lady. She delivers lines in an experienced way in a cocky face, saying, “A woman calls first because of one of these two reasons. She is bored or attracted.” She was not awkward in expressing the love line with Um Tae-woong (Byung-hoon), six years senior to her.
☞ Film ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7' (2012)
The human comedy ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7' drew up to 12.8 million viewers. The film is about a story of a father with six-year-old intelligence falsely sent to prison for homicide Yong-gu (Ryu Seung-ryong) and his young daughter Ye-seung. Park Shin-hye played the grown-up Ye-seung. She became a prosecutor and participated in a mock trial for her father’s case.
She appeared for a short period of time, but the impact was enormous. Park Shin-hye embraces the head of her father in a prisoner’s uniform and acquitted him of his false charge. At the same time, she shed tears from her tearful eyes. Viewers shed tears together. It was the most touching and emotional scene in the film.
☞ tvN 'Flower Boys Next Door' (2013)
This time she burned into Go Dok-mi, the ‘city-type Rapunzel’. She seldom goes out of her home, her own castle. Instead, she peeps at a man across her home whom she likes alone with a telescope. And then her world totally changes as the man (Yoon Shi-yoon) catches her peeping.
Where else will be this lovely hikikomori? She is like a main character from a cartoon. She is embarrassed by Shi-yoon’s daring dash and does not know what to do out of shyness. When she talks about her story, she burst into tears. She was acclaimed for an upgraded expression of emotions.
So far, we took a look at how actress Park Shin-hye grew up. In a nutshell, her past decade was characterized by change and growth. She played a range of different characters from a girl with a sad story to a beauty masquerading as a man, and to a hikikomori.
One thing that does not change is her beauty. Park Shin-hye’s time goes backwards. (Photo) The left is a decade ago while the right one is the present. Can you believe it? Except for the baby fat, she is still the same compared to a decade ago.
Park Shin-hye is going to comeback with SBS-TV’s new drama series 'Those Who Want the Crown, Withstand the Weight of it - The Heirs (working title)' in the second half of this year. She plays ‘Cha Eun-sang’, a cheerful woman with a sad story. Are you already excited to think of a chemistry with Lee Min-ho? We will look forward to Park Shin-hye’s own romantic acting.
