K-Dramas have come a long way since its emergence. From its OGs like Boys Over Flowers and Secret Garden to the 2010s contemporaries like The Heirs and Descendants of the Sun, this generation of K-Dramas continues to break the barriers of genre. From a Friends meets Grey’s Anatomy type of medical comedy-drama, to a surreal, vivid portrayal of between life and death, K-Dramas are both comfort watches with their familiar tropes, but remain refreshing with unique themes and storylines.

Justice will always prevail. The Judge from Hell lives up to its name. When the fearsome demon afterlife judge Justitia is cast out of Hell for wrongfully condemning human Judge Kang Bit-na (Park Shin-hye), she’s given a brutal ultimatum: inhabit Bit-na’s body for a year, hunt down ten remorseless murderers, and send them to eternal damnation. Failure to do so will expel her Justitia from existence.

It’s amusing to watch the human-form Justitia adapt to the mortal realm. Posing as a judge in an actual court, the possessed Bit-na delivers verdicts with ruthless efficiency. The real satisfaction comes from Bit-na’s vengeance, taking down humans who harbor absolutely no regret for their actions and personally sending them to hell.
