Plot

Depicts the love lives, jealousies and desires of those that work within the Sanguiwon during the Joseon Dynasty period. The Sanguiwon are responsible for the attire worn by royalty.
Dol-Seok (Han Suk-Kyu) is the best master artisan in charge of royal attire. He views set rules as paramount to his job. Kong-Jin (Ko Soo) is a genius like designer, born with dexterity and an excellent sense. He was brought to the palace by nobleman Pan-Soo (Ma Dong-Seok) who first spotted his talent.
The King (Yoo Yeon-Seok) and Queen (Park Shin-Hye) then become embroiled in a critical case because of the royal attire made by Dol-Seok and Kong-Jin.

Filming began February 21, 2014 and finished on July 2, 2014.

<The Royal Tailor> depicts competition of tailors who made attire worn by royalty in Joseon Dynasty. Park Shin-hye appears as a righteous and beautiful Queen who lives a tough life in the film.

Park Shin-hye cries a lot in the film. She said, “I thought she was really poor because she was unloved and wasn’t able to express her emotion. I wanted to express her loneliness as well as I could in the film.”

She also said, “Some people don’t like my facial expression when I cry. So, I tried hard to show different acting for crying scene this time.”“I also tried not to furrow my brow because I am really ugly when I do that,” she added.

In the film, Park Shin-hye wears beautiful Hanbok (Korean traditional costume). She said, “I was really happy. Hanbok that I wore were all so beautiful that I wanted to own it. Hanbok that I wore for royal banquet scene was really beautiful. It looked like a wedding dress. I also really wanted to have the pale purple colored Hanbok that Gong-jin asked Dol-suk to sew.”


Lastly, “I learned a lot during filming. I am now nervous and my heart pounds to see this film for the first time. Director said that this film was like a fairy tale for adults. I agree with him. I hope people to feel the same as me.”

Lucky ones who are lovely even when sad or crying........I agree the light purple Hanbok is really pretty..........I love the color combination.......very elegant dress. I was really glad that I was an actor.”“I went to filming location wearing the robe the other day. I felt like I was a real king. I felt awkward,” he added.



Yoo Yeon-seok had a lot of emotional scenes in the film. He said, “I realized that King’s life has many difficulties to overcome during filming. I also learned that Kings lived really tough lives.”“I sympathize with their lives as an actor,” he added.

He has appeared as a bad man in his previous film. He will show dark side of him in this film, too. He said, “I am sad that you told me that my character has dark side. I didn’t want to be seen simply like a bad king who treats the queen badly. It was also obvious that King loves the Queen. But, he couldn’t express his love because of the sense of inferiority. He also got hurt when he approached her.”


Lastly, Yoo Yeon-seok stated, “I felt so proud while watching this movie. I can say I don’t feel any shame on this film. I was also very happy during filming. I am sad and happy at the same time for this moment. Director said this film starts with clothing, and ends with people. I also got people after I finished this movie.”
