Korean actress Park Shin-hye joined the cast of new romantic comedy "Cyrano Agency," according to her agency Ava Entertainment.

The movie took its motif from French picture "Cyrano de Bergerac" helmed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau and starring French actor Gerard Depardieu.

Park will star in the Korean pic alongside opposite Uhm Tae-woong as matchmakers who work at the same agency.

The film will be helmed by director Kim Hyun-suk who is well-known for directing movies "Scout" and "When Romance Meets Destiny." He was also one of the screen writers for "Joint Security Area."

Park made her debut in 1994 and has starred in numerous dramas and movies including "Stairway to Heaven," "Goong S," and "Minamishineyo." She is also a familiar face in television commercials and music videos.

"Cyrano Agency" is set to begin filming on April 19 and is scheduled for release in September over the Chuseok thanksgiving holidays.

An agency receives a request from a man who cannot confess his love to a women and wants the agency's help to make that woman love him. The president of the agency (played by Eom Tae-Woong) becomes involved in helping their client (played by Daniel Choi) woo the woman (Lee Min-Jung). That woman happens to be the agency president's ex-girlfriend and the two men begin to compete for her affection. Park Shin Hye works in the Cyrano Agency as a love agent and will be helping the agency's president not knowing the history of the 2.

Synopsis of the play :

Although their company is outnumbered, starving, and facing almost certain death, Roxane daily receives a letter signed with Christian's name. Irresistibly drawn by these letters, Roxane dares to drive through the enemies' lines to reach her Christian's side. When Christian sees the power that another's letters have had over Roxane he suddenly realizes that it is Cyrano and not himself that she really loves. He insists that Cyrano shall tell her the truth and leaves the scene. Before Cyrano has divulged the secret, however, Christian is carried in mortally wounded. When Cyrano whispers in his ear: "I have told her; it is you she loves," Christian dies happy.

After Christian's death Roxane goes to live in a convent and for some fifteen years it has been Cyrano's custom to call each Saturday afternoon on the stroke of three. In spite of innummerable enemies and abject poverty his gay invincible spirit shines forth at these meetings. Then one Saturday as he proceeds to his call, an enemy pushes a log from a window causing it to fall onto his head, breaking his skull. He hides his injury from Roxane, but begs to be allowed to read Christian's last letter which she carries always next to her heart. Only when in the gathering darkness he reads it through unfalteringly does Roxane realize that he was the writer and that through all the years it has been Cyrano that she loved.


Base on the synopsis above, those three charachter are the main lead of the play...and I cant found/compare which charachter Shin Hye will play when I try to compare the movie and the play.
I guess Shin Hye charachter is a new addition only for the movie......any other opinion??

I also think they sort of pattern it in the famous never ending storyline on Cyrano de Bergerac. Different countries took interest in Cyrano story that many versions of movies, books came out. Interesting almost an epic story of history. Even the biographies came out. this is interesting if u seriously want to follow that, check them out in the net.

This korean version is also a different take but may not be exactly the same that is why the backdrop became a love agency. The concept is the same, so our dear Shin Hye's role is another twist to that story. Have also the same thoughts since SH's name came after all 3 were announced.

Just a thought.
