Yoon Shi Yoon and Park Shin Hye Talk About What They Like About Cable Dramas
Yoon Shi Yoon is often called the king of ratings ever since he garnered over 50 percent in viewership ratings with Baker King, Kim Tak Goo, but this doesn′t mean he′s never suffered from low ratings. His MBC drama Me Too, Flower!, which aired in 2011, left its marks on his career after failing to pass one-digit ratings.

Ratings are always a cause of concern for actors, regardless of whether they love their piece or not.


At the press roundtable for tvN′s Flower Boys Next Door held on January 3, Yoon Shi Yoon said, "When you′re on a main channel drama, three dramas air in the same time slot so you can′t help but think that one out of the three is ′our team.′"
This answer came when asked about the difference between a main channel drama and a cable drama.

He said about the positive side to cable dramas, "We only have to care for the viewers and ourselves. We only have to think about what we can show the people who watch us, and who like us."

Park Shin Hye also felt how different main channel and cable dramas were during her shoots. She said the biggest strength of cable dramas was their ′freedom′. Being able to express themselves without any limitations is the best thing actors could have.

Another strength of cable dramas is that they don′t run on hardcore filming schedules.

Park Shin Hye said, "I felt this during filming, but there′s a lot we can express in our acting. Rather than be chased on because we′re short on time, we have more time to think things over, and we can show more."

Director Jung Jung Hwa, director of Flower Boys Next Door, defined cable dramas as the midpoint between main channel dramas and feature films. The director, who debuted with the film Lost & Found, moved to a new form by going on to direct Flower Boy Ramen Shop.

He said, "[Cable dramas] have 45 minutes given for every episode, a shorter time compared to main channel dramas, but I believe I can express what is needed with a quicker and tightknit pace."
